Children's Camps

The children come to Olivia’s Special Horses for three hours giving their parents some well deserved respite. Stable Management Workshops

We are now running stable management workshops at Olivia's Special Horses. These workshops are available to both mainstream children and those with special needs.
The aim of these workshops is to provide children with an insight into horse care and what looking after a horse really entails. All of the work involved is ground work so the ability to be able to ride a horse is not needed.

Some children may already have some knowledge of horse care but may need a little extra knowledge and experience in order to become more proficient. Other children may need to start from the beginning. Either way, these sessions will be tailored to suit all levels.

Children will learn about:

  • How to groom
  • Mucking out a stable
  • How to tack up a horse
  • Horse nutrition and the correct feeds
  • Horse behaviour
  • Handling horses including leading and turning out

This workshop is a great way of building up trust and confidence levels for children of all ages and abilities. Learning about the horse’s behaviour and body language will increase the child level of trust around the horses. Achievable goals will be set for all children and a certificate will be awarded at the end of each six week program.

Weekly sessions are usually for one hour and cost €10, although those that wish to stay for longer can do for up to a maximum of three hours at an hourly rate of €10.
These sessions would make a perfect gap filler for siblings who are waiting around whilst a therapeutic lesson is taking place.
